Why I Am Leaving Facebook

Making the decision to leave Facebook has been difficult. In general, I enjoy Facebook. I have friends and family spread all over the world and, for the most part, without our Facebook connection, I would have no contact with them. For example, I have a great nephew who got engaged this past weekend. If it weren’t for Facebook, I probably would have heard about it around two weeks after the wedding.

And I love my Facebook friends. (Some of you, not so much – you know who you are. 😉) Most of my friends are smart and hilarious and make me smile every day. My friends and family live interesting lives and I enjoy sharing their lives with them. Losing touch with them will sadden me.

So, or me to leave Facebook was a difficult decision for me. I am powerfully motivated. There are two major reasons why I am dropping out.

1.     I don’t trust Facebook. You might say, “Who does?” My guess is everyone who still uses Facebook. I don’t trust many of the posts, lots of the friend requests 😊, and the Facebook Corporation. I don’t appreciate them selling my information to “godknowswho”, to make some more money. Lord knows they don’t need more money.

2.     My "Hate Trump" friends are driving me nuts. Personally, I love an intelligent political conversation. But I don’t enjoy repeating the same thing over and over and over again. I’m pretty intelligent and a quick study and, thus, figured about two days after the 2016 election who didn’t like the President. There is no need to repeat yourself. I’ve got it. I’m not really crazy about him myself. But I treat him like the last few Presidents, whom I also wasn’t crazy about. I tried not to bitch about them and I prayed for them. (As Jesus  clearly instructed us to do.)

a.     I am also concerned about many of my friends who post negatively almost daily. I am concerned about their mental health. Being that negative for so long (Two and a half years and counting.) can’t be healthy. It seems to me that the Dems have been throwing a huge temper-tantrum since Hilary lost the election. Frankly, I couldn’t have voted for either one of them. I try to vote for the candidate whom I perceive has the best value system and moral values. Neither candidate qualified.

b.     I am also concerned about their spiritual condition. To hate someone is not healthy. It is also against the clear teachings of Christ. Being so stirred up about politics is a sign that people are convinced that the government can fix/save our country. I wasn’t a great scholar, but I’ve studied (and lived) enough history to know the government, at best, can only be a neutral influence. The government isn’t going to fix/save us. But I think I know who will. We would do well to pay more attention to Him.
